The Desoto up for auction is a very unique 1939 DeSoto Two Door Sedan. DeSoto was an American automobile manufacturer which was in business from 1928-1961. The marque was founded by Walter Chrysler and was to complete with the mid range manufacturers. The brand saw immediate success selling over 81,000 cars in 1929. This was a 1 year brand record until the introduction of the Ford Falcon in 1960. Into the 30s and 40s, American automobiles got their style from streamlining. Long sweeping curves and aerodynamic shapes were popular and this 1939 model has the look. The rounded front face cuts through the air and the softly sloping rear deck makes for a very attractive 2 door sedan. This particular all steel DeSoto has been street rodded to give some more performance as well as quite a few more features. Under the hood you’ll find a 350 CID Chevy V8 which has been bored .030 and stroked 1/4″. It has a Corvette L-82 hydraulicΒ cam. Backing the 350Β is a 700R4 automatic transmission and a 10 bolt Posi rear end with 2.73 final drive ratio. It sits on a 1976 Firebird front sub frame with 3 turn steering box and tubular control arms. The interior is gray cloth with bucket seats up front and bench in the back. It has all the goodies such as AC, modern CD stereo, power steering, power brakes, power locks, tilt column, and seat belts. The DeSoto is finished in a two tone combo with Pewter on the top and Aqua Blue on the bottom. It sits on rally wheels with radial tires. A few additional goodies are the power actuated trunk lid and the Wolf whistle.
